Parkdale Secondary College has a longstanding history of providing students with a large variety of musical experiences, both in and out of the school setting.

Students who learn a musical instrument develop self-confidence, responsibility, teamwork, self-esteem, and above all, an enjoyment of lifelong musical appreciation.

The program is supported by excellent facilities and experienced Classroom and Instrumental music staff who are both educators and musicians to help all students achieve excellence in the Instrumental Music Program.

The year 7 & 8 Classroom music program sets a strong foundation for students wishing to continue with either a performance pathway into VCE Music Performance or a technical pathway through VET Music Industry Certificate III (VCE).

Students involved in the program help to promote the school through involvement in local and wider community events. Students in all year levels are encouraged to be actively involved in a wide range of musical activities including:

  • instrumental music lessons and participation in ensembles such as Parkdale Voices and Concert /Jazz Band & Rock Band
  • performance in school productions, Mid-Year Music Concert, Instrumental Soirées and Celebration of Student Achievement
  • performance at Assemblies, Recitals, Lunchtime Concerts and Community Events.
  • completing music examinations such as AMEB, ANZCA and Trinity
